Academics

Building a Strong Foundation for Lifelong Learning

In the early grades, a child’s educational foundation is being carefully laid. At LCS, we view Kindergarten through 6th grade as essential years for teaching the skills students need to become confident, capable learners. Our lower school program focuses on skill development, critical thinking, and biblical truth so that students are equipped to apply their knowledge as they progress through their academic journey.

Through a blend of structured instruction, hands-on activities, and engaging lessons, students build a strong base in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. These foundational years are designed to nurture curiosity, encourage responsibility, and foster a love for learning—all within a Christ-centered environment that supports both academic and spiritual growth.

Curriculum

A Strong, Christ-Centered Curriculum

At Laurel Christian School, our curriculum is designed to provide a strong academic foundation while remaining firmly rooted in a biblical worldview. We primarily utilize BJU Press, a trusted Christian curriculum known for its academic rigor, clarity, and commitment to integrating Scripture into every subject area.

BJU Press allows our students to engage deeply with core subjects such as math, science, history, and language arts while consistently pointing them back to God as the source of all truth. This approach ensures that students are not only gaining knowledge, but also developing a Christ-centered understanding of the world around them.

While BJU Press provides the foundation, our teachers have the flexibility to thoughtfully supplement instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students. This may include incorporating additional literature, hands-on activities, inquiry-based projects, and elements of classical education such as memory work, logic, and student presentations.

This balanced approach allows us to maintain academic excellence while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning—equipping students to grow both intellectually and spiritually.
